Journey of weight loss

Weight loss is truly a journey. You research diet plans, exercises and eat healthy food. Make a plan. Then try to stick to it. Sometime you succeed and other times fail to stick to the plan. Nevertheless, the desire does not stop. You keep on trying with new diets and new physical activity.

I want to loose weight. I have this wish for the past 5 years. The reason is to stay healthy. My body mass index(BMI) is above in overweight range. I want to have normal BMI. The benefits are many. It would avoid the diseases that I would have when I am in 40's. So I have to prepare for it when I am in my 30's. There are up and down of my weight on the weighing scale. There are many reasons why I cannot go. I do not want to focus on why I cannot do. I want to talk about what I did and the results of it.I do not want any advice on how to loose wait. This article does not share any tips on weight loss. Please consult you doctor or dietician for proper rules.

In the beginning, I focussed on exercises. I did running in the evening for 1 hour. Stopped eating fried food. I love pizza, burgers and sandwiches. I with held my cravings. I did all of these for three months. I lost 2-3 kgs. Soon I realised I cannot go for jogging everyday. Then I signed up for Yoga classes. There I learnt several asanas. I did them everyday. I felt rejuvenating. I did yoga for 5 months. There was no significant decrease in weight. My body became more flexible. I could see improvement in my body. Meditation reduced my stress and my patience increased. My enthusiasm in life increased. I had new interests. Cooking was one of them. I started to learn to cook new dishes. I ate them well. Time spent in cooking and eating was more. I did not have interest for excercise. I kept postponing it. As a result I gained the weight I lost in last eight months.

All these time, I kept record of my weight and time it took to lose and gain. It was evident that the time to lose weight was more than time to gain. I did not loose hope. I again tried to loose weight by running. I used to be tired soon . I tried to eat less and resisted the urge to eat food that I love. I lacked self-control this time. It's not same everytime. Your body does not respond same way as it did at a past time. I realised it is futile effort to follow the same pattern of food habits as before.

So I tried something different this time. I decided not stress and keep trying. I walk for an hour. I cannot do it everyday. Whenever I can I do it for an hour atleast 4-5 times a week. I also try to eat healthy food. I drink sugar less beverages. This time I have not resisted my cravings.I eat what I want. Still I have not reached my required weight. it has not increased either. Loosing weight is indeed a journey.

Malpe beach

Malpe is a costal town in Karnataka. It is known for its ports, beaches, fishing harbor and St Mary’s Island. It is located at a distance about 6 kms from Udupi. The town gets its name from the Malpe river.

Malpe as a port was known to sailors during 2nd century. It is said that the coastal town was familiar to the Greeks and has been mentioned along with Kannada or Tulu words in their tales and ancient manuscripts. Greek geographer Ptolemy (150 AD) mentions Malpe as Malippala in his works. One of the Ancient manuscript called Oxyrhynchus papyri, No 413 has a Greek drama known as “Charition mime”, dated approximately second century 150 CE. It is said to contain some words that are similar to Kannada or Tulu words. The re is mention of Malpe in in that drama, in the context of refering to Chief of Malpe as Malpiniak. The topic is debatable among the historians.

St Mary’s Island is a popular picnic spot. There is a boat ride from the Malpe beach to St Mary's Island.
For adventure lovers, there are plethora of options to do at the beach. These include parasailing over the sea, banana boat rides, Jet skiing, zorbing and surfing to name a few. There is also a floating bridge from where you can enjoy sunset and move with the waves of Arabian sea. For nature lovers, one can walk on the beach and enjoy the beautiful sunset.

There is a Malpe Beach Sea Walkway from where one can see St. Mary’s Island. The Sea Walkway is quite a popular attraction here as it gives a very good view of Malpe Beach.

Mixed feelings

I had mixed feelings today. It had been long since I had such a feeling. I couldn't control my emotions. I knew that it was stupid to weep over such trivial matter. It didn't deserve that much attention. I cried like a child. I was deeply hurt.

Some random person yelled at me. There was no politeness in speech. Tried to humiliate through words. I was hurt by aggression and not by words. It was like dog barking at stranger. It was toxic enough even for the people around me to feel the petty behaviour.

I could have walked away. I couldn't. I could have retaliated same behaviour towards the person but didn't. I didn't want to speak with anyone but also didn't react. That time I was reminded of a quote by an eminent person who said if you are angry or unhappy at someone, then instead of reacting immediately move out from the place to a calmer one. This helps regretting of ones own reaction to the situation.

I told the person what was to be told to make that person understand and did what I had to do. Then quietly left the place. I was calm and composed outside. Inside I was a volcano, waiting to burst my lava of emotions. I came back to home and let my emotions free.

Reading on internet

We used visit the library to borrow and read books. When we were kids, we had 1 hour dedicated to reading books in our school. These days, the internet is the source of reading. Any piece of information can be obtained from the internet. Older articles, books are obtained as scanned copies. So much of information can be gathered. The shortcomings of insufficient books in a smaller library are overcome by the internet.

A computer with good internet connection is important. Technology is advanced and size of the source of information has reduced to a size of a palm. Everybody has smartphones. Many e-readers are available for downloads. These e-readers also have some classics that are available for free for readers.

The feeling is different when one reads paper books and on the e-reader. Going to the library to pick books on the rack, planning what to read next, the smell of the pages of a book, these experiences cannot be obtained with the e-reader. One can take many e-books stored in an e-reader which is not possible with paper books. Also, the e-reader brightness can set can be to read in the dark.

News channels and papers have their own their own websites. They update news every hour on their sites. Even working people who would have had to wait to reach homes and watch news can access even before it is published in newspapers next morning or watch it on television.

The Internet is useful to anyone who is in search of information. There could be false information spreading around. So one has to be careful to analyze and choose which is best for them.

The reason I cut my hair short

I have straight hair or wavy hair I donot know. They are wavy after bath and straight when dry. I love the fact that my hair is silk and soft after drying. I had long hair like 10 years ago. It was upto waist. I used to tie them into single braid.

I started cutting my hair shorter because I wanted to try different hairstyles. I had layered cut at first. The length of hair was still long enough. Then slowly over years I use to get hair cut such as u-cut, v-cut and straight cut. As a result, I had medium length hair which is length slightly below shoulders. I have good hair growth after cutting them. I am satisfied with it. Six months ago, I cut my hair upto my neck and now it has become further short upto my face.

I used to loose hair on oiling and on washing. Hair fall was due to different reasons. The water had calcium and magnesium salts. Washing with such water will cause hair fall. The sweat and dust in hair, change in weather also affected hair.Long hair was difficult to maintain. The stress levels I had due to work also made it difficult. Long hair required me to make time for hair care routines. Since I have least interested in hair lengths, I decide to cut short my hair. I have observed that the amount of hair loss on washing hair is less after haircut.

There are lot of benefits for me with short hair. I can was regularly. I can maintain them well. I donot need to tie them back and let them free. I am not afraid that they will get tangled due to wind or breeze and make me look messy.

When I had longer hair, I used to get my hair trimmed at home.I was afraid to go to the salon. I was worried that they will cut it shorter and what if the hairstyle doesn't look go on me. Now I not scared of it. If it is cut shorter than before, I would be happy that I have tried different hair style, the one I wouldn't have asked to cut. That does not mean I hate my hair. I am not going for boy cut or shave my head. I like my hair.I want to see myself in short hair for a change.

I was contented with my length of my hair and never wanted to cut them short. Now I have crossed that phase. I have enjoyed having long hair for enough time. I am happy with my hair length now.
